First Flip

No, Fletcher has not learned to do somersaults. The title refers to our new little gadget. We are not a gadget family, necessarily, but my sister recently got a flip video recorder and has been carrying it around and actually using it (vs. just storing it under three inches of dust in the cabinet, which is what I do with my current camcorder), so naturally I had to get one myself (by the way, after I bought ours online I spotted the minoHD with tripod on sale at Costco). It is not that our "old" camcorder is a relic or anything (got it when Fletcher was just moving from isolette to crib in the NICU, so it is barely over two years old). In fact, it is a hard-drive recorder, so I don't even have to mess with tapes. Problem is, we can't find the editing software, and the Flip just makes it SOO easy!

I just unwrapped it mere minutes ago, found Fletcher playing in his playroom and pushed a button. Then I plugged it into the computer and pushed a couple more buttons and here it is. Not the most exciting footage (although personally I am impressed at how well Fletcher is starting to follow directions when I ask him to bring his hands up) but I thought I would share our "first flip." Enjoy!

Wow. all I can say is wow. I know that you see Fletcher every day, so you probably don't see the improvements like I do, but oh my goodness! Honestly, I feel like i need to go run and do some ABR on Charlie or something because Fletcher has obviously made some major strides since February. and, of course, I'm full-on jealous at Fletcher's ability to talk. We've started working on this with Charlie, but he's still miles behind Fletch.

Anyway, we have a Flip and it's still in the box, so maybe I should get it out, right?

He's doing so well!!!!

It is so great to see Fletcher in action. I feel like it's been so long since I've since him! It looks like he's making great strides!

OMG Erin, WOW! He is doing SOO good! I can't believe how smart he is, and his words, and the way he's moving! He'll be belly crawling in no time! Your little China project will also help him tremendously, I can't wait to see him again once he gets back! Will you try to post some videos with your Flip while you're there?

Hello! Fletcher is absolutely wonderful! My name is Dianne- I'm Drew's speech pathologist. Kristin and Mike may have mentioned that I was there during their first 2 weeks in China- I would have welcomed the opportunity to stay longer- they are such a Wonderful family! I just wanted to take a moment to wish Fletcher and your family Best Wishes! As a therapist, I can definitely say that since receiving stem cell treatment, Drew has made DRAMATIC progress in skills- I wish you all the very best- (and enjoy your time in China!)
